How to Choose a Tattoo Design

Don’t make any rash decisions
Bad tattoos and regrets come from making decisions on the go and without proper research. Getting a tattoo while you are drunk, after a break-up, or because your friends pushed you into it –these are all the wrong reasons for getting a tattoo. Not only that, you would probably regret the decision for the rest of your life.

Take it slow
The tattoo you are going to have on your body will be there for life, so having a serious thought about it and having a good look at the design before you get inked, is crucial. Moreover, are you sure that you’ll be happy with the chosen design after 5 or 10 years? Is your chosen design wrinkle proof? Chances are, that Hello Kitty won’t look as good on old skin, as it does now on a young skin.

Consider the placement of your tattoo
Thinking about the part of the body where your tattoo will be placed will also affect your selection of the design –especially if you’re selecting an intimate design. The body parts which are normally open (much of the body in case you are a bikini or short dresses wearer), are not good to get intimate tattoos, if you don’t want your grandmother to see them.

You should also think about various social situations where displaying your tattoo isn’t the best idea. One such occasion would be a formal dinner party. If you’re a woman and having a large dragon on your back – are you going to be comfortable wearing that evening dress?

It’s true that tattoos are getting more and more socially acceptable, but some businesses (and people) will remain more conservative than others. Keep this in mind when getting your tattoo.

Choose a design which has a meaning for you
First of all get a batch of tattoos through research from which you can choose from. For this you can go to a library, browse the internet or visit popular parlor, and study the books with various designs. Check out the latest designs, what seems to be timeless, and what do you think will keep you happy for many years to come.

If you want to get a tattoo in words (in any form or language) take your time twice as long as you would normally. Check and re-check the meaning, spelling, and ideograms.

If possible, get a printout before committing
Getting the print will allow you to check the design and how it fits to your skin at the same time; see the design and your skin in a mirror during the day time and in the night with night lights on.

Start with a removable version first
Henna can be used to get a removable version of the tattoo design. However, some colors are not available, but you’ll get the general idea and the experience of wearing a tattoo anyway . It may take one to four weeks for Henna to completely disappear. This short period will provide you with an opportunity to judge the looks of the tattoo with your clothing and how it will feel when you get into your routine.
